Dice

Not only useful for playing Monopoly, a set of dice can be a teacher’s 3rd or 4th best friend for quick practice activities that can be adapted to vocabulary or a skills focus. This is useful for revising something at the beginning of the class.

Time: 5-10 minutes
Preparation: Bring 2 dice. Write what you want to practice on the board
Level: Elementary – Advanced
Happy students: *

Procedure:

  1. Write the numbers 2 – 12 on the board.
  2. Write what you want to practice next to each number. For example, you could write the word you would like the students to describe.
  3. Student A rolls the dice and describes the word
  4. Repeat until all the words have been described

Alternatively, for a skills class like telephoning…

  1. Write the numbers 2 – 12 on the board.
  2. Write what you want to practice next to each number. For a telephoning class, you could write ‘answering a call’ or ‘giving a reason for calling’.
  3. Student A rolls the dice and gives an example sentence
  4. Repeat until all the things have been described
